Artificial intelligence (AI) technology and its relevance to the profession and ethics journalism in Malaysia
Keywords:
AI, Journalism, EthicsAbstract
Artificial Intelligence technology has played an increasingly important role in the journalism industry. Despite the increasing use of this technology in news provision in Malaysia, its full impact remains unclear. This study aims to understand the impact of the use of AI technology in journalism by analysing the views and experiences of local journalists. The methodology used in this study was qualitative, an in-depth interview of 12 journalistic media practitioners in Malaysia. This study found that journalists' views on ethical issues in the use of AI reflect deep concerns about the negative impact on public trust. Algorithmic bias, job reduction risk, privacy issues, political control, and commercial influence are some of the major problems facing the media industry. It is important for media organizations to implement AI in an ethical and responsible way and maintain a balance between technology and quality journalism. Despite the ethical and privacy challenges, the positive impact of AI in the media industry is significant and continues to grow. Journalists need to continue to adapt and work with technologists to ensure that the use of AI in journalism brings benefits without sacrificing ethics and public trust.
