Author Guidelines

Introduction
Thank you for considering the e-Jurnal Kewartawanan Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) as the platform for publishing your scholarly work.
The Journal welcomes original, high-quality and unpublished manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of journalism, media and communication studies. All submissions undergo a rigorous editorial assessment and Double-Blind Peer Review to ensure academic quality, originality and research integrity.
Submission of a manuscript signifies that the authors have read, understood and agreed to comply with the Journal's Editorial Policies, Publication Ethics Statement, Transparency Statement and Author Guidelines.

 

Scope of the Journal
The Journal accepts manuscripts in, but is not limited to, the following fields:

Types of Manuscripts Accepted
The Journal accepts the following categories of manuscripts:
•    Original Research Articles
•    Review Articles
•    Conceptual Papers
•    Case Studies
•    Professional Practice Articles
•    Short Communications
•    Book Reviews (by invitation or editorial approval)
•    Editorials
•    Special Issue Papers

Language
Manuscripts may be submitted in either:
• Bahasa Malaysia; or
• English.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the language used is grammatically accurate, academically appropriate and professionally edited prior to submission.

Originality of Submission
Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript:
• is original;
• has not been published previously in any language;
• is not under consideration by another journal or publisher;
• does not infringe any copyright;
• complies with accepted standards of research ethics.


Simultaneous submission to multiple journals is strictly prohibited.

Online Submission Process
All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the Journal's official online submission system available on the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) website. Before submitting a manuscript, authors are required to:
• register as an Author in the Journal's online system;
• complete the required author profile;
• prepare all required submission files;
• ensure compliance with the Submission Preparation Checklist.

No submissions via email will be accepted unless specifically authorised by the Editorial Office.

Submission Procedure
Authors should complete the following steps:

Step 1
Register or log in to the Journal's online submission portal.
Step 2
Select New Submission.
Step 3
Choose the appropriate manuscript category.
Step 4
Confirm compliance with the Submission Preparation Checklist.
Step 5
Upload all required files.
Step 6
Complete all manuscript metadata, including:
• Title
• Abstract
• Keywords
• Authors
• Institutional affiliations
• ORCID (if available)
• Corresponding author information
Step 7
Provide funding information and declarations.
Step 8
Review all uploaded information.
Step 9
Submit the manuscript.
A confirmation email will be sent automatically upon successful submission.

Required Submission Documents
Authors must upload:
• Manuscript (Microsoft Word format)
• Title Page
• Author Declaration Form
• Conflict of Interest Declaration
• AI Disclosure Statement (where applicable)
• Ethical Approval Letter (where applicable)
• Copyright or Licence Agreement
• Supplementary Files (if applicable)

Incomplete submissions may be returned without editorial review.

Manuscript Preparation
Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the Journal's formatting
requirements.

The manuscript should include:
• Title
• Abstract
• Keywords
• Introduction
• Literature Review
• Methodology
• Findings
• Discussion
• Conclusion
• Acknowledgements (if applicable)
• Funding Statement
• Conflict of Interest Statement
• References
All references must follow the latest edition of the APA Style.

Submission Preparation Checklist
Before submitting, authors must confirm that:
• the manuscript is original;
• the manuscript is not under review elsewhere;
• all authors have approved the submission;
• ethical approval has been obtained where required;
• references have been checked for accuracy;
• tables and figures are appropriately numbered;
• permissions have been obtained for copyrighted material;
• AI usage has been disclosed where applicable;
• funding has been declared;
• conflicts of interest have been disclosed.

Editorial Screening
Following submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment to
determine:
• relevance to the Journal;
• compliance with formatting requirements;
• originality;
• language quality;
• ethical compliance.

The Editorial Office reserves the right to return manuscripts that fail to meet minimum
submission requirements before peer review.

Peer Review
Eligible manuscripts proceed to a Double-Blind Peer Review involving at least two independent reviewers.
The Editorial Board may request revisions before making a final publication decision. Editorial decisions are final.

Revision of Manuscripts
Where revisions are requested, authors should:
• respond to every reviewer comment;
• provide a Response to Reviewers document;
• highlight all revisions made.

Failure to submit revisions within the specified timeframe may result in withdrawal of
the manuscript.

Acceptance and Publication
Accepted manuscripts proceed through:
• copyediting;
• language editing;
• proofreading;
• author approval;
• online publication.

The Journal reserves the right to make editorial amendments that improve clarity and
consistency without altering the scholarly content.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
